A thorough account of the history, applications, and successes of wellness initiatives applied to corporate groups is provided by the American College of Sports Medicine. Since the Industrial Revolution, jobs in our culture have become increasingly less physically demanding. As physical activity in the workplace decreased, it seems as though psychological stressors have increased. Active wellness initiatives aim to decrease levels of stress and physical stagnation in the workplace to improve general affect, cohesion, and productivity. By creating an environment where employees are more acutely aware of their health and it’s impact on their life and work, employers can also reduce health insurance costs incurred through injury and illness.
